Yes, bananas grow in Turkey — especially between Alanya and Anamur. Every year, banana plantations in Alanya produce around 200,000 tons of bananas, yet local consumption is even higher. The plantations are mainly located on hillside terraces near the coast, with irrigation provided by nearby rivers.
In the village of Yakacık, bananas grow on flat lands, creating a wide banana field crossed by a small river. Harvest season starts in September or October, peaking between November and February. Although bananas are easy to grow, they don't tolerate cold well. In colder winters (0 to +8°C), greenhouses are used for protection.
If you're driving from Alanya to Anamur, you’ll notice banana plantations along the way — especially after turning at the sign for Antioch Erderoğum. A scenic route up and down the hills reveals plantations and a castle surrounded by banana groves.
You can also see the banana fields on a tour to Sapadere Canyon. The tour includes stops at banana orchards, the canyon’s waterfalls, a colorful cave, and a traditional Turkish village with peanut fields and an old mosque.
